![]() This has been a great week for Resident Evil fans. Digital games research company SuperData let the cat out of the bag about the next Resident Evil game , which according to them is set to release this fall. At the same time, the research firm also inadvertently confirmed Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 . We also received confirmation this week from NetherRealm Studios that long-time Mortal Kombat veteral Liu Kang will be joining the Mortal Kombat X roster. With just a few weeks left until release, the Mortal Kombat developer is releasing information at a rapid rate, so we're sure to see even more reveals and rumors hit the streets soon. While we've been discussing Liu Kang, Resident Evil and a new speedrun record for Fallout 3 , here are a few other stories from the week we wanted to mention. -
In the next update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection , developer 343 Industries will be addressing a handful of issues with the game, including improvements to multiplayer ranking. Ranks will be available for additional playlists, and the team is also said to be working on new penalties for quitting and betrayals. Improving the ranking system, as well as introducing new penalties should go a long way to improve the Master Chief Collection ’s current situation . Even though the game plays much better than it did at launch, there are some issues that still need to be resolved before the game is ready for a major tournament, which we expect to happen after the success of the game’s Championship series . - [HTML1] Last month, word broke that Microsoft had canceled a reboot of Phantom Dust , which was being developed by Darkside Games. The reboot was meant to revive the cult classic from the original Xbox, and while Darkside Games is no longer working on it, Microsoft says it still plans to release the game at some point for Xbox One. Microsoft didn’t provide a reason for cancelling the project, or when they envision the game will release. Phantom Dust is one of the many games being rebooted or remastered for current-gen consoles. With the lack of backwards compatibility on the devices, and the inability for players to outright purchase classic games like they could on last-gen consoles, it seems reboots and remasters will continue to grow in popularity. Hopefully, for Phantom Dust fans, there’s still hope the game will make its way to the Xbox One. While there’s not yet any official word on the edition, Warner Bros. did submit the game for a Game of the Year classification to the Australian Classification Board. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the Shadow of Mordor receive a Game of the Year edition, especially considering the strong reviews it received from both critics and gamers. We at Game Rant gave the game a 4.5 out of 5 . Considering the game is only six months old, we would expect a Game of the Year edition to surface sometime in the fall, or possibly next Spring, given the plethora of new games planned for later this year. Whenever it’s released, though, we have no doubt Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year edition will sell well among gamers. Source: Twitter -
Broken Age Act 2 will be released in the U.S. on April 28, 2015, and April 29 in Europe. According to developer Double Fine Productions, Act 2 will be free to any PC gamers who already own Act 1 . For those looking to purchase both acts, the game will be available as a single purchase for $24.99. The full game will also be available soon for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The independent game has received strong support among gamers and shows that the point-and-click genre is still alive and kicking. In fact, independent games of all genres continue to receive positive reviews and make strong sales among gamers, showing that it doesn’t take a huge team and millions of dollars in ads to make a game successful. And thanks to services like Steam Green Light and Kickstarter, independent developers are able to create buzz for their games on a tight budget. We look forward to playing the second act of Broken Age and will have a review available shortly after it launches. In the meantime, check out our review of Broken Age Act 1 . - [HTML2] Developer Wales Interactive has announced their first-person parkour and shooting moba Game blog, Infinity Runner , will be making its way to Xbox One. The fast-paced linear game has found success on Steam, and will likely be available for Xbox One owners before the end of the year. After the success of Dying Light ’s parkour action adventure, we have no doubt Infinity Runner will do well on the Xbox console. The above video shows the game is fast-paced, with various obstacles and enemies to overcome as players sprint through 14 levels in an attempt to escape a spaceship. We’ll be interested to see if Wales Interactive releases the game during the fall, when we expect many major titles to launch, or if the developer will opt for a release date when things are a little quieter. ![]() Source: Wales Interactive -
Dota 2 is by far one of the most popular games to both play and watch. The game has a constant and high following on services like Twitch and YouTube , and has seen impressive attendance at past tournaments. Tickets for the upcoming Dota 2 tournament went on sale this week, but weren’t available long. In fact, despite the $99 price tag, the first round of tickets sold out in just six minutes. The second round of ticket sales beat the first round, selling out in an impressive four minutes. The speed by which the tickets sold out is definitely a strong indicator that the eSports industry is alive and well. With viewers of tournaments growing alongside the award money, we’re sure this is still only the beginning of eSports. The prize pool for the previous Dota 2 International tournament, for instance, reached $11 million. Esports is definitely here to stay. Stay tuned to Game Rant for the latest in video game news. |
